What is the process of buying a gown? (The Process)

First, we suggest you make an appointment with us. This allows your bridal consultant time to devote to you. Once you’ve found your gown, we require a half deposit to place your order.

Why should I make an appointment?

Shopping for a wedding gown is a little more complicated then shopping for a blouse at a department store. Unlike a blouse, gowns are impossible to put on by yourself. Some gowns are heavy and all require someone to lace or zip you up. When you schedule an appointment a bridal consultant, you will get her full attention. With her expertise, your visit to our salon will be time well spent. She will narrow down your style and answer any questions you may have.

When can I schedule an appointment?

Monday -Thursday 11 am to 6pm

Friday & Saturday 10am to 4pm

When should I start looking for my gown?

It’s never too early to start looking for your gown. The sooner you find it the less you’ll have to worry about on your big day. As a rule of thumb, you should leave at least 5 months for ordering. For brides maid, mother of the bride, and flower girl dresses, please allow 2 to 3 months.

What is the average cost of your gowns?

We start as low as $200 up to $2,000.

How soon do I have to pay for my gown?

To place an order, we require a half deposit. The balance is due within 10 days after the merchandise has been received in our store.

Should I order my veil with my gown?

When you order your veil with your gown, it will arrive at the same time or sooner, which is one less thing to worry about. We carry a wide variety of veils in lengths, cuts, trimming, jewels and fabric. You may also custom order your veil to match your dress.

At this time you may consider taking a look at our Dyables shoe line, specially made for comfort and class. They can be dyed to match your bridal party’s dresses as well.

Do you match competitors prices?

What is your policy on refunds?

Special Orders:
No refunds or cancellations are allowed.

Stock Merchandise:
Must be paid in full at time of purchase and refunds are not allowed.

When do I make an appointment?

After you have been notified your gown has arrived by one of our bridal consultants, you should schedule your first fitting appointment right away. You can schedule to come in at any time during our business hours, which are:

MondayThursday 11am to 7pm
Friday & Saturday 10am to 5pm
You should schedule your second fitting (if needed) at least 2 weeks before your wedding. We do NOT schedule second fittings on Friday or Saturdays, as our consultants and seamstresses will be busy all day.

What items do I to bring to a fitting?

It’s important to have shoes with your ideal heel length at the time of your fitting, as this will determine weather you’ll need to hem your dress. If you haven’t decided on a heel height yet, don’t worry, one of our consultants will help you find the right heel height with our Dyables shoe line.

The need for a slip may affect the hem line as well. We carry all sizes in both waist to fullness of skirt.

Most of our gowns are already made with supportive corsets. However, if you want a little more support we carry strapless bras, or our seamstress can sow cups into the gown for a minimal cost.

How long does a fitting take?

30 minutes to an hour. If you have your shoes, bra (if needed) and slip (if needed) ready, the faster we will have you dressed and measured.

Does it take long for a gown to arrive?

99% of fabrics come from over seas, not to mention manufacturers cut your dress to your size when they receive your order. This is why we ask you to leave yourself enough time to order your gown.

What is the cost for alterations?

At Ferndales our alterations are very reasonable. Ultimately the cost will depend on how manufacture’s standard measurements compare your size. If your size falls in between 2 sizes we will order the larger size, because it’s safer to take in then to let out. From there your first fitting will determine the cost. Please ask you bridal consultant for further details.
